Editor's Note
It gives me immense pleasure to write the inaugural editor's note in the first
ever published edition of the Pakistan Orthodontic Journal (POJ), Volume I. Five
years ago, when this association was formed, the Orthodontics in Pakistan had
started, evolving. Due to the persistent hard work of a handful of specialists,
the specialty has developed dramatically, both clinically and academically. In
addition to this certain norms and parameters regarding the ethical practice of
the specialty have also been established. I am indeed proud of the fact that now
the Pakistani orthodontists, under the umbrella of the Pakistan Association of
Orthodontics (PAO), are being recognized on the international forum. The PAO is
now an affiliate body of the Asian Pacific Orthodontic Society (APOS) and the
World Federation of Orthodontists (WFO).
The POJ is the first step towards establishing a culture of research and
development in the field of Orthodontics in Pakistan. It is my ardent desire
that this would further lead to the establishment of a specialty board duly
recognized by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) and various
academic boards, the world over.
The PJO has an ISSN Number and shall be published biannually. It will be indexed
and available online in the due course of time.
Finally I want to pay tribute to our senior colleagues who, through great pains,
made this association a reality and brought it to this level. I would also like
to take this opportunity to tell our juniors that they are the future flame
bearers of this orthodontic beacon.Editor
